Welcome to Woodton's Remote Learning Page. As we are currently living in uncertain times due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it is important that we ensure that the education of our children continues to a high standard. On the tabs below you will find various scenarios which you and your family may find yourselves in over the coming months. Each tab explains how your child's education can continue if they are unable to attend school in person due to COVID-19. Depending upon the situation, communication will be through the school office or either of our digital platforms - Tapestry (Willows) or Class Dojo (Oaks). Please see the appropriate tab below for further information.
Whole Bubble Closure – Teacher isolating too (up to 2 weeks)
OR Whole School Closure
In the event that we have to close a class bubble or the whole school, teachers will need some time to prepare the remote learning for your child. Therefore, for the first full day that your child is not in school and isolating, please use the resources from ‘Waiting For a Test’ tab. This will give teachers and staff time to prepare the work for the remainder of the isolation period.
We will be teaching the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible. However, we have needed to make some adaptations in some subjects. For example, in computing not all parents will have access to PowerPoint or Word and in Music, access to musical instruments will be varied for each family.
Your teacher will upload a weekly timetable. Please follow this timetable as closely as possible.
Daily Expectations:
- Read every day
- Practice Phonics (Reception and KS1)
- Practice number bonds (Reception & Year 1)
- Practice Times Tables (Year 2 & KS2)
- Maths focus – set by teacher
- English focus – set by teacher
How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?
We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:
EYFS | 1 – 2 hours |
Key Stage 1 | 2 – 3 hours |
Key Stage 2 | 4 hours |
How will my child access remote learning?
Teachers will upload the timetable and learning to the following platform:
Willows – Tapestry
Oaks - Class Dojo
These platforms will allow you to see what the learning is for your child, to upload the work that your child completes and to have direct communication with the class teacher and other staff in your child’s class.
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. Please contact us if you need support.
How will my child be taught remotely?
We use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely:
- live sessions, using Teams
- recorded teaching (video/audio recordings made by teachers)
- worksheets and activities produced by teachers
- commercially available websites supporting the teaching of specific subjects or areas, including video clips or sequences
What are your expectations for my child's engagement?
We will regularly check children's engagement with learning by:
- checking attendance at Teams meetings
- monitoring work uploaded by parents / children onto Tapestry or Class Dojo
Where engagement is a concern, we will contact you to discuss this.
How will you assess my child's work and progress?
We will aim to approve a piece of work and give feedback within 5 days of the work being uploaded (to allow for those classes where there is more than one teacher).
How will school support children with SEND to access remote learning?
We recognise that some pupils may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers individually to support those pupils.
Communication
You will be able to communicate with the staff in your child’s class via Tapestry or Class Dojo during school hours.
Please also expect a phone call while you are isolating from Miss Read or Mrs Querelle to check that you are all safe and well.
