Remote Learning

Remote Education Provision: Information for Parents

What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?

In the first week of remote learning, the learning will be posted to class stories on Class Dojo. There will not be remote teaching this week as teachers will be given time to adequately prepare for remote teaching/learning for the upcoming weeks.

Following the first few days of remote education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?

We will be teaching the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible. However, we have needed to make some adaptations in some subjects. For example, in computing not all parents will have access to PowerPoint or Word and in Music. We will make adaptations and give choices for subjects like Art, DT and Music where resources may be needed.

How will my child access remote learning?

All classes will upload timetables and information about remote learning to Class Dojo either in Class Stories or individually if adaptations are needed.

Class Dojo will allow you to see what the learning is for your child, to upload the work that your child completes and to have direct communication with the class teacher and other staff in your child’s class.

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. Please contact us if you need support.

How will my child be taught remotely?

We use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely:

  • Worksheets and activities produced by teachers
  • Live sessions, using Teams
  • Recorded teaching (video/audio recordings made by teachers)
  • Commercially available websites supporting the teaching of specific subjects or areas, including video clips or sequences

Teachers will communicate all of this learning through Class Dojo.

What are your expectations for my child's engagement?

We will regularly check children's engagement with learning by:

  • Checking attendance at Teams meetings
  • Monitoring work uploaded by parents / children onto Tapestry or Class Dojo

Where engagement is a concern, we will contact you to discuss this.

How will you assess my child's work and progress?

We will aim to approve a piece of work and give feedback within 5 days of the work being uploaded (to allow for those classes where there is more than one teacher).

How will school support children with SEND to access remote learning?

We recognise that some pupils may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers individually to support those pupils.

How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?

We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:

EYFS 1 – 2 hours
Key Stage 1 3 hours (as per government guidelines)
Key Stage 2 4 hours (as per government guidelines)
